The Tour of the Lakes and Volcanoes of Auvergne (GR®30), near Clermont-Ferrand in the Massif Central, offers an exceptional hiking experience in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park. This 188 km route, which can be completed in about 9 days, traverses unique volcanic landscapes, alternating between dormant volcanoes, craters, and majestic lakes.

The journey often begins in Clermont-Ferrand, with the Puy de Dôme, peaking at 1,465 meters, offering a panoramic view from the first kilometers. The path then leads to Puy de Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central at 1,886 meters. Among the many volcanic lakes, Lake Guery at 1,244 meters altitude, and Lake Pavin, an almost perfectly circular crater, are particularly noteworthy.

The Chaudefour Valley, with its steep slopes, hot springs, and waterfalls, is an essential stop. Picturesque villages like Saint-Nectaire offer cultural and culinary breaks. The Mont-Dore and its surroundings provide a grand conclusion to this adventure, offering an exploration of natural forces and a dive into the geological history of Europe.
