La Passa Païs is a family-friendly cycling route of approximately 75 km, located in the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park.
It follows an old railway line, now sanded and secured, between Mazamet and Bédarieux. This route takes you across the watershed divide, with the Mediterranean side on one side and the oceanic side on the other (hence the nickname “Passa Païs” in Occitan, meaning “Cross country”).
You can travel the “voie verte” in either direction, west to east or east to west. The route and its access points are well maintained.
Along the way, you'll encounter other sports enthusiasts: hikers, joggers, and even horseback riders also use this trail.
The peaceful journey along the Passa Païs allows you to enjoy a variety of landscapes that will unfold before your eyes: forests, scrublands, and mountains.
You will also have the opportunity to admire the Caroux Massif, the Montagne Noire, and make stops in charming Languedoc villages.
In the Tarn section, you will find the Montagne Noire to the south and the Anglès plateau to the north.
The scenery changes in the Hérault section, with chestnut groves, scrublands, and vineyards.
During this adventure, you will pass through the village of Olargues, a medieval town recognized as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France." Additionally, you will pass near the Héric Gorges and can visit the Saint Julien Priory or the Saint Pons de Thomières Cathedral.
To make your journey along the Passa Païs easier, La Malle Postale offers a transport service for people and bikes.
This service allows you to return with your equipment to your initial starting point.
For transport between Mazamet and Bédarieux or Bédarieux and Mazamet for up to 8 people with bikes, the cost is €200 from Monday to Saturday and €280 on Sundays and public holidays.
