The GR 470 Springs and Gorges de l'Allier goes up the Allier river to its source at Le Moure de la Gardille.
Along the way, you’ll discover wild and varied landscapes, from the bottom of the valley to the plateaus of Gévaudan and Velay, where the path splits away from the river. In this area, Atlantic salmon spawn. Great efforts are being made to strengthen their population.
You’ll also come across Romanesque art such as the Basilica of Saint Julien in Brioude or churches and chapels, many of which are beautifully decorated with wall paintings.
Your route, after Le Moure de la Gardille, will take you to La Bastide Puylaurent. There, the Cévenol train will give you a different way of seeing the wild valley again as it takes you back to your starting point.
